First Rhetorical Analysis Donald Trump Utah can help make America great again

Many of you know the United States presidential election is coming up in a couple of months. As a result of this, all of the candidates are making lasting efforts to receive votes from people. I recently read an article by Donald Trump to the people of the state of Utah in the Deseret News. In my opinion I feel that Trump was very persuasive.

In his piece Trump mentions how he feels that America needs change. He believes that “America can’t afford a third Obama term”. In his mind that is exactly what Hillary Clinton represents. He mentions Hillary Clinton many times in this article. I feel that Trump really does a good job of getting his point across. His whole campaign I feel has been focused on change. Trump begins his piece by saying “We need to make America great again by supporting our law enforcement, ending illegal immigration, defeating ISIS, and bringing back jobs and restoring conservative values.” In my opinion these sound pretty good.

In his message to the state of Utah, he brings up many reasons why America needs to change. In this article, one event that he brought up was the fairly recent tragic shootings of the police officers in Dallas, Baton Rouge and New York adding “We cannot tolerate this anymore and we must stand with the brave men and women who put themselves on the front lines of defending our communities.”

Later on in the article Trump brings up taxes and how Hillary Clinton wants to raise taxes by 1.3 trillion dollars. This would really hurt middle class citizens and most of all small businesses as they would be taxed almost 50%. I really liked how Donald Trump targeted the middle class. Being from the state of Utah I believe that most of the people living in the state would be apart of the middle class.

To finish Trump brought up abortion and how he is pro-life and how everyone should get the chance to live their life and how if we elected Hillary Clinton our tax dollars would pay for it.

I feel like Donald Trump was very persuasive in this piece and was able to clearly get the point across with the help of the rhetorical styles he used. He was really good at using Hillary Clintons beliefs against her in this piece.

  3. I did my post on Hilary Clinton's piece and it's interesting how both of their speeches are so different. Hilary took the route of reaching out to the Mormon community, whereas Trump tried to appeal to the patriotism of the American people. Since both of them are so different, this reminds me of how there are different takes or perspectives on rhetoric. If that makes any sense. Plus it sounds like he basically sated the pros for voting him and the cons for voting Hilary.

  4. I find it interesting how politicians consistently focus on the "evil" policies of their opponents in order to get their point across. Donald Trump specifically makes efforts to go after people's personal information and then spew toxic and discriminatory comments rather than trying to explain his political positions.
