  1. I definitely agree that the author used amplification through simplification of the background. Also, I think it is important to look at the presence of each character. While they are all very detailed, the author managed to give each character a level of importance. For example, one character at the funeral scene was completely outlined in white. He was held in much higher regard than the rest of the crowd.

  2. It shouldn't surprise me that the author used simplification in the background instead of the characters. I'm used to the idea of simplifying the characters and more detailed background. I would like to know how common amplification through simplification is used in graphic novels.
